I had the lovely pleasure of attending a graffiti jam that was hosted by a local graffiti shop (Spectrum Arts). I have always had a flirtatious interest in street art. I've always been drawn to those dingy alleyways covered in tags that would steer most common sensed people away. When in these alleyways, I have never been accosted by hoodlums with spray cans. In fact, quite the opposite. I have caught some taggers mid act and asked if I can watch them and they have been more than civil and tolerated my gawking presence as I watch them go about their illegal activity.
At the jam I met some wonderful people who are very adept with a spray can. I only went with my camera, as there was no way I was going to deface any walls with my pathetic attempt at spraying. The talent there was just too good!
If you have some spare time, I implore you all to check out the graffiti of Pompeii. It is utterly hilarious, witty and ridiculously dirty and somewhat of a dead style, which is such a shame. If I saw taunts from a bus about genitals and sexual escapades splattered all over walls in such a lewd commentary, I'd definitely gather strange looks from fellow passengers because I'd be stifling laughter all the way to work.
So, now for pictures of the Graffiti jam.
