So, today I rolled out of bed, fed the feather brains (who currently insist on sitting atop of my head and screeching along to my music. I don't have the heart or courage to tell them they are completely tone deaf. Their beaks are nimble and dangerous!) I then took the bus (after holding up the queue as one needs to pop the exact fare in the little tin boxes, and they don't dispense change, and I couldn't find it. The bus driver was pleasant and patient. The people behind me, not so. Grumpy old ladies who seemed to be in a hurry...). So, I got off the bus at a retail park to have a looksy inside Pets at Home as I needed to get pellets for the screamers. They get cantankerous if not fed to a strict schedule. As I walked around the store, looking for the parrot section, I gave up and ended up asking at store assistant. They pointed to the back of the store and as I approached my heart fell in dismay. It was the most feeble selection of parrot toys, foods and accessories I've ever come across. Get it together Pets at Home! I know parrots aren't as popular as fish, rodents, cats and dogs but at least sell decent food that won't turn my parrots eating habits into something pickier than a fussy supermodel. Anyway, so I ended up buying toys from the rodent section which were cheaper and perfect for my little chewers (which, may I add got me nothing but a borehole shaped bite in the skin above my first Phlanx. Thanks). So, I paid up and waited at the bus stop. I got into a great conversation with an awesome woman who was talking about her bus experiences. Not all of the at all pleasant . So I got on the bus, it was the same driver who took me there, and I had my change ready this time, albeit 10p more than the fare, but hey ho.
I'm the type of person who always sits up top and likes to look out the window and look at the teeny tiny little slivers of people's lives, their facial expressions and I like to imagine what it would be like to be them for a few seconds. From the old lady carrying a huge amount of shopping to the guy sitting on a wall with his headphones on, scrolling on his phone. Bizarre, I know. Anyway, I was looking out the window, admiring a nice rainbow which, I'm pretty sure nobody else noticed, as it wasn't a big, bright, double or triple fully formed arch dispersion of light but It still brightened up my day.
I then noticed a girl running. She was in a red hoody and had a red backpack that looked like it was full of books. I could tell by her gait that she was a good runner. She reminded me of a girl that used to be in my class during senior school who was a great long distance runner. Top of her field. I remember thinking is she late for the bus? But she just ran past at a steady pace. One two one two, arms swinging. Face perfectly calm, lungs handling the incline of the road like mine do sleep. The bus then pulled away and my thoughts moved onto the next unsuspecting person. The bus pulled in and out of several stops. Then about 7 minutes later a red movement caught my attention. It was the running girl! Mind. Blown. She was keeping up with the bus. I could not believe it. I was simultaneously incredibly impressed at her and scared for my own health. Yeah I was helping the environment by taking the bus but let me put this into perspective for you readers. This bus had gone at least a mile and a half, god knows how long she had been running for BEFORE I spotted her, stopping at various stops along the way, but it was pretty much uphill and she had a backpack brimming with bricks on her back for all I know. Exactly.

This wonderful lady beat my bus to the bus stop. Mazel tov.
